P365 Live up to all the hype?

The number one requested firearm of 2018 has been the Sig Sauer P365. It has been on the cover of every firearms magazine and been the talk of concealed carriers across the country. So the question is, does it live up to all the hype? TO answer this, I think we need to first look at where the gun came from. The concealed carry market has exploded across the country and with it came a lot of different models of guns. The Smith and Wesson Shield, Glock 43, Walther CCP and Ruger LC9 and Now LC9S to name a few. All of these guns seem to have a certain following and die hard owners reluctant to change. All of these guns are of similar size and each has their own features that you either love or hate. I think this will be true of the Sig P365 as well.

As fast as the P365's come in, they seem to go out the door. Sig Sauer can not keep up on production and it has certainly kept the demand high. I have had a chance to shoot one a while back and I will say I am impressed by certain features. I have carried Glock's since I turned 21 (14 years ago), and I should note I own several other guns as well. I am not a "Glock Guy", it is just what I am used to. After 11 years in business you find that a Glock either fits your hand, or it doesn't. Some people can shoot them, others can not. Main reason I carry a Glock is simply they are reliable. Not much change to design over the last few years, at least not internally. I also own a Glock 43 which I carry from time to time as well, however I prefer the capacity of the 19.

How did it shoot? The P365 exceeded my expectations in a Sub Compact 9mm. The recoil was less than the Shield or Glock 43 and it shot fantastic. Grouping was as better than comparable guns in this category. The trigger pull was crisp and it felt good in the hand.

Likes- The X-Ray night sights are fantastic with a bright green dot in the front which was easy to pick up on. The grip angle makes the gun point well and the grip itself sticks to the hand making it easy to control. 10+1 Capacity certainly sets this gun apart from its competitors. I like the solid steel magazine over a polymer mag, simply for long term durability and less likely to get damaged if dropped multiple times.

Didn't Like- The one 10rd Magazine doesn't have the extended finger well, might be OK for someone with small hands, however not the best for a full size hand. I think these guns should include a 10rd and 13rd Mag instead of the 10rd mags. I do not like the game of low supply and high demand. I think Sig Sauer should have anticipated the high demand and built up inventory to cover it. This is a lot like Kel-Tec with the PMR. I think they should offer a safety model, not because I personally want a safety, however as a retailer many people would prefer a manual safety.

I think Sig Sauer could have done a better job being transparent about the initial test batch of 1000 that was sold. The most common question we get asked is "Are these the newest generation, I heard Sig had problems". I can only speak to the many that we have sold as being problem free, We have never had to send one back for repair. There was never a recall on the gun and according to Sig, the front sight has changed from earlier models due to tolerances/fit not being correct. We also heard they made a change in the firing pin to correct an issue with firing pins breaking. All of the current models show no signs of issues.

Final Thoughts- The Sig P365 will dominate the Sub Compact Carry Market for a long time to come (Assuming another one of the big names doesn't clone it and market it for a lower cost). The Size, Capacity and Low Recoil set this gun apart from the other big name gun companies. The price at $549.99-$579.99 (Depending on availability at the time) will deter some people from purchasing and they certainly won't be disappointed with a S&W Shield ($399.99) or Glock 43 ($429-$500). If you would like to handle and or purchase one of these, we will have 12 back in stock by the end of the week (Around November 30th), give us a call to reserve one for $549.99. If you have any other questions feel free to reach out!
